I know I should be ashamed for not addressing Michael Jackson's untimely passing sooner. But in all honesty... I am still in shock. It's like I'm in a bad dream unable to rouse myself from my slumber. And lately, hearing Michael's classics blaring from every car window in New York City has been the alarm clock that repeatedly brings me back to reality. No words can come close to describing the way I feel. I feel so guilty for not truly appreciating him for the legend he was while he was still living. Listening to his music now is almost like hearing them for the first time. And all I can think about is how I never realized how beautiful his voice was. Even if you are a person who didn't favor his artistry, his influence over all of pop culture is undeniable...this is especially true for the world of fashion. From the white socks and loafers, to the single white glove, Jackson's sense of style was something that seemed to be contagious in the 80's and early 90's. I can't, in good conscience, turn Michael's death into a fashion blog topic. But I will pay tribute to the influence he has had on the two things I love most...music and fashion. He will be sorely missed.
