Eyelashes for Everyone!

False Eyelashes have been popular for a while. But it wasn't until this past year (and maybe a little bit before then) that I started observing their use in such abundance. Falsies are no longer reserved for the likes of Béyoncé and other media icons. Lashes have become so popular that it is now an advertised service at most nail salons.

I can't really see myself spending $2o dollars on something that I don't even know how long it will last gonna last and that I could do myself anyway. But if you're really trying to achieve that look and can't do it yourself, it might be worth it for you. M.A.C. has some really nice lashes that can be worn everyday (not that I would), and they also have some really dramatic lashes with feathers and other embellishments that can look really nice with the right makeup and the right type of occasion. If you find yourself addicted to the look (kinda' like people in the late 80's and 90's with lip liner moles) then I would definitely recommend Ardell  individual lashes and some black adhesive. If you are experienced working with lashes I would recommend the "wispies."

In any event, I, for one, am glad that it seems as if lashes are here to stay for a while ;)

TIE-DYE

I can't even front...I will definitely be making an effort to include these trends that I have had my eye on into my summer and, possibly, fall wardrobe.

In honor of my *always interesting* voyage to Jamaica Avenue today I am going to start off by officialy co-signing the TIE-DYrevival!!!  I will give some of the props to MediaTakeout.com for recognizing Ciara in tie-dyed pants as one of the latest fashion trends...but I am taking it a step further. Despite the fact that I have seen one other fashion blog that gave notice to this comeback as a fashion for this past Spring, I am rockin' out with this one for the summer!

While I was out running some errands I spotted some pants just like this at a...uhhh..."boutique" and had to take a pic. I should of copped them right then but my darling son was in the middle of a meltdown so...you know the rest. But I will definately be back there tomorrow to pick 'em up. There were several other tie-dyed items that I observed today but none as cute as this one!

The Asymetrical Neckline (I love it short with the slit up the leg!)

I have a couple of pics of some random actresses and socialites (including the mysterious Ms. Maggie Betts -- daughter of Chelsea Pier developer Roland Betts) at this weeks Whitney Art Party , and Calvin Klein Collection High Line Party, rockin' asymmetrical necklines. Maggie Grace and Camilla Belle showed up in similar looks that I really liked, while Dree Hemingway graced the Calvin Klein Party in a playful yet classy black and white leather number. Might I also add that Sienna Miller is on the cover of Vogue's July issue in a silk, asymmetrical dress from Calvin Klein Collection.  This is definitely a trend that is already catching on. I'm striking while the iron is hot before this one gets overdone...come to think of it...same goes for the tie-dye!

Tribal Prints

The chick from Juno and Lake bell were both at the Whitney Art Party flossin' in Hérve Léger by Max Azria dresses that featured tribal prints characterized by clean lines and flattering construction. I also found a pic of Melissa George at this years prestigious CFDA awards in a sparkling, floor length Nicole Miller gown with a meticulously detailed sequin tribal pattern.

Glen Plead...eh hem...I mean PLAID

As I am sure most of you out there heard, the Chris Brown and Rhi Rhi saga (hopefully) came to a close today as Brown plead guilty to felony assault charges stemming from the couple's post Grammy Party scuffle. You can get the rest of the dirty details from Mediatakeout.com in addition to a pic of the glen plaid suit Chris donned for today's appearance. Chris is the latest in a string of dapper black men who I have observed breathing new life into this classic print. Jay, pictured below, showed his fashion versatility and knack for accessorizing with his Prince of Wales blazer and matching scarf while Lebron James took a more traditional route with the three piece glen he rocked at an after party for this years' NBA All-Star game.

I love to see our young brothers expand their fashion horizons beyond signature fabrics that endorse companies who have no interest or respect for our consumership. Classic prints are just that...classic and timeless. They are versatile and have the ability to reveal ones knowledge and respect for the art and history of fashion. If you had a chance to check out Carolina Herrera's Spring 2009 Collection it would be more evident that not only is glen plaid "back," it never left.

Welcome...

If you are reading this it means that you have, somehow, found some time with in your busy life to  check out my blog...and for that, I thank you.

I have decided to start this blog as an outlet for my thoughts on fashion, its affect on our culture and community, and the direction I see it going. This blog will also serve as a testament to the fact that the young black community needs to be respected as a consumer on a continental and global scale. As a young black woman who has had my nose in Vogue magazine before I could even read, it has become apparent that the world of fashion is yet another realm of society into which we have not gained full entrance.

Change is near.
